Zombie Life: My Favorite Zombie Movies/TV Shows

The month of February in Hawai’i usually means a lot of rain.  It’s our version of snow and winter.  It’s really a sad sight.  So, the best way to beat the rain is to curl up and watch a good movie.

I’ve never been a zombie fan before.  I used to think it was dumb and kinda childish, but these movies/TV shows has changed my mind forever.  Here are my favorites and honestly, a must see.

1.  Shaun of the Dead

I’ve wrote about Shaun of the Dead way too much, but I really love this movie.  If you don’t like the horror of zombie movies, this is the perfect romantic comedy zombie movie.

2.  Versus

Versus is a Japanese movie.  It’s like a samurai zombie movie.  If I could compare it to something, it would be maybe Blade, but not really.  There is a lot of gore and I don’t remember that much dialogue in this movie, either.

3.  Zombieland

Another great comedy movie, it’s amazing!  Woody Harreison, Emma Stone, and Billy Murray…need I say more?

4.  28 Days Later

28 Days Later is heavily debated whether if this movie is a zombie movie or not.  Technically,  it doesn’t follow the zombie formula, but the “monsters” in 28 Days Later act like zombies, so I just added this to the list.

5.  Dawn of the Dead

Every time I watch this movie, I act like Jay from 40 Year Old Virgin.

6.  Night of the Living Dead

A classic, a must see!

7.  Dead Snow

Dead Snow is ridiculous in a good way.  Last time I checked it was on instant, so maybe I’ll do a Jen’s Cinema.

8.  Pet Sematary

 Stephen King is BOSS!

9.  Planet Terror

I love the whole Grindhouse look and feel of Planet terror.  Some people may not dig it, but I do.

10.  The Walking Dead (Like you didn’t see this one coming!)

What’s your favorite zombie movie?

It’s awesome you converted to zombie horrors. This is a great list. The only 2 I haven’t seen are Versus and Planet Terror, will look into those now. Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are unstoppable! They looked like they had heaps of fun making the film from their DVD gag reel.

I agree, I love Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, and Nick Frost. They are a great team and I hope they make a movie together really soon. Versus, at times, seems weird and intense, but if you are huge zombie or samurai fan, it’s a must watch movie.

Whoops, how could I forget Nick Frost!! I’m going to check out Versus :)

Cool, let me know what you think. It’s not for everyone, so if you didn’t like it, I won’t hold it against you. LOL Enjoy!

ok, i don’t know if pet sematary is really a zombie movie as much as it’s a “holy fuck i shit my pants” sort of movie.

i didn’t see the actual movie but i read the book and if the book scared me that much, i don’t want to see it at all!

HAHA, you always make me laugh. I never read the book, but the movie makes the rising dead look somewhat zombie like. Probably, in the book is way different. Stephen King is a genius, but sometimes I wonder about his mental state. LOL

Shaun of the dead is so good! How different from the ones I am used to!

I agree! I never thought I would love a romantic comedy zombie movie. I didn’t think that was possible, but the brilliant Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg begs the differ. I even love Hot Fuzz, such a good movie. Those darn Brits….they are so awesome.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my blog. I hope to hear from you again.

Nice post Jen :-) I have not seen that Versus or Dead Snow movies but your the second person to reccomend Dead Snow this weekend so I am going to have to check that out.

Looking forward to watching the walking dead tonight as well as the oscars so it looks like my tivo is going to get a workout.

Have you read any of the walking dead graphic novels by Robert Kirkman?

    • February 26, 2012 at 11:10 AM #

OH, Dead Snow…lol. It’s really one of those movies that are silly, but awesome at the same time. I liked it very much, so hopefully, you guys will like it too.

I am totally looking forward to The Walking Dead. I’m curious to see what happens between Rich and Shane. I feel like a world war is upon the group. I’m interested to see what happens to Hershel. The taste of danger at the bar must’ve changed his mind about letting the group go…or maybe not. We’ll see. And lastly, what about that new dude with the injured leg? What’s up with that situation?

I’ve never read any of the graphic novels. I’ve been told that fans of the novels hate the show and vice versa. I’m a huge fan of the show, but I wouldn’t mind read the novels as well. How about you?

Yeah I have been reading them for years and love them. I wouldn’t worry about spoiling the polt of the show by reading the books as they differ significantly. If anything the books are much more gory as they couldn’t put alot of that stuff on TV.

Sweet, I’m going to start reading them. When I searched on amazon, two different novels popped up, The Walking Dead book 1 and Compendium, which one is better? I have no clue. I tried reading the reviews, but that’s not a great help. LOL

Jen I think that compendium collects the first 50 comics and the graphic novels have about 12 comics each in them.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Thank you so much for clarifying that, I was quite confused about that. I’m such a noob. LOL
