Traveling Foodie Tips With Saturdays with Maggy

Gwen from Saturdays with Maggy had asked a couple bloggers to give their TOP traveling foodie advice.  Since this is vacation season, it was only fitting to share all our experience while traveling.  My UK blogging friend, Rachel from Symbiotic Life  is on there, as well as, a new blogging (hopefully) friend, Lindsey from Black & Blonde.  I suggest that everyone check out the blog post.

The woman behind the blog:

Big Island blogger, Gwen, shares all things food, which includes her award winning recipes.  She recently came back from NYC, where she shared her adventures like, $1 oysters.  I’ve known Gwen for a little over a year (time files!).  Although, I’ve never met her, I feel like she is an old dear friend that I’ve known forever.  Check her out!

What are some of your traveling foodie tips?  How do you save money on food while traveling?  How do you pick restaurants in a place you never been to before?

My biggest tip is if you’re trying to find a restaurant to eat out at, find one that has a lot of locals in. Even in a very touristy town, you’re going to find somewhere where the locals will eat out at. Locals know best!

I love that tip! It’s so true too. When I’m the tourist, I don’t want to go somewhere touristy to eat. I want to eat, meet, and be like a local. I’m going to remember that tip. Thanks!

I’ve been such a horrible follower lately! I’m totally slacking on commenting on other people’s blogs!

Sorry if I’ve neglected you! Lol.

And wow, you’re a big deal now with one of your blog’s photos on the news! Lol. Sorry ah, superstar! Haha. But really – I would LOVE to have my blog featured anywhere.

OH, Frikken Duckie…I forgive you. LOL Nah, no worries. You have school, blogging, a family, work…so I totally understand.

I’m super famous now, girl. LOL Nah, it was nice that I could help out the new station. I didn’t gain anything from it whatsoever. Trust me. You are right…it’s nice to be featured anywhere.

Well, I hope to see you back here soon!

I love your recs over at the guest post (read my comment there!). And so happy that you take risks and adventures with food while on vacay. I draw a line somewhere but I’m totally with you on that one. I was most upset about not eating this special tofu in Japan b/c I was traveling alone and didn’t want to seem like a loser in that particular restaurant. I also regret not eating Kobe beef. Oh well! I ate plenty else!

@Lisa: Awe, thanks, girl. My tips weren’t conventional like the other bloggers. I kinda felt a little stupid to be honest. LOL I’m glad that others like you, thought it was cool tips.

I totally understand about eating/traveling alone and feeling a little odd. I’ve learned that my shyness will not keep me from experiencing great food or travel experience. I’ve eaten a lone a lot when I travel, because I eat like every three hours. Since I look like a tourist, I don’t really get those “OMG, I feel sorry for her” looks. Or I don’t notice it. I figure, I’m paid a lot of money to travel here, your looks are not going to push me away. LOL Now, going to the movies by myself…well…that’s a different story. LOL

I”m going to read your comment on Gwen’s blog right now.

Thanks Jen! I really hope it works out that we will get to meet each other soon! I can’t believe we have been blog friends for a year, crazy!

@Gwen: Totally, I can’t believe it’s been a year too. Time flies when you are having fun blogging. LOL I’m still trying to figure out what days I want to go. I know it’s going to be in September. So, I hope you are not going anywhere in September.
