Movie Confessions Blogathon

Here’s another post featuring 3 Guys 1 Movie.  I actually saw this awhile back and didn’t realize that this had a time limit.  Darn you, procrastination. Since I missed the deadline (story of my life), I decided to just answer these question on my own blog and not share it with the originator.  This post was originally started with Nostra from My Filmviews (anther movie reviewer superstar).  Go ahead and check them out.  If you want to share your answers, you can comment below or leave a link to your blog.  I would love to read all about it!

Which Classic Movie don’t you like/can’t enjoy and why?

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.  I always fall asleep within the first 15 minutes.  I don’t know why, I just have a connection…maybe because I’m a brunette.  Kidding.

Which ten classic movies haven’t you seen yet?

  1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
  2. Seven Samurai
  3. City of God
  4. It’s a Wonderful Life
  5. Alien
  6. A Clockwork Orange
  7. Lawrence of Arabia
  8. The Green Mile
  9. The Great Dictator
  10. Dog Day Afternoon

Have you ever sneaked into another movie at the cinema?

Never.  I just never had that urge to do so.  My dad has…tons of times.  He said that the movie workers only question the young and never the adult.  I guess that’s why I never did it, because I felt like I would never get a way with it.  Now that I’m adult…maybe I should movie hop.  Nah.

Which actor / actress do you think is overrated?

Besides Lost in Translation, Scarlett Johansson doesn’t wow me.  I don’t think she is a great actress and I never saw her challenge herself with a role.  I think the reason why she keeps getting roles is her beauty.  She is beautiful, but nothing else.

Lately, I feel like Tom Cruise has been everywhere with his crazy antics.  Plus, if I have to hear him and Scientology one more time, I’m going to go crazy.  Is it just me or does he only do action movies.  I mean, come on, Tom Cruise, let’s do some REAL acting like “A Few Good Men”.

From which big director have you never seen any movie (and Why)?

I’ve never seen any of Roberto Benigni’s movies yet.  I want to watch “Life is Beautiful”, but right now I’m not emotionally read to watch a WWII Nazi concentration camp movie.

Which Movie do you love, but is generally hated?

OH…I have tons of that, but I’ll just pick one.

O (2001).  It’s a teenage version of Othello.  I loved it…no one watched it.  Have you seen “O”?

Have you ever been “one of those annoying people” at the cinema?

Never!  I’m quiet. Always have my phone on silent.  Rarely get out of my sit during the movie.  Don’t kick the chair in front of me.  I don’t save 20 seats, I keep it to two or three (including myself).  I don’t talk back to the screen or talk to my neighbor.

Did you ever watch a movie, which you knew in advance would be bad, just because of the specific actor / actress was in it and why?

Yes and I loved it.  I heard that “The Change Up” was too predictable, which made it kinda boring.  I don’t care.  I love Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds.  After watching this movie, I ended up really loving Olivia Wild.  I think she is lovely.  A close second is Cowboys and Aliens.

Did you ever not watch a specific movie because it had subtitles?

Nah, that never stops me.

Are there any movies in your collection that you have had for more than five years and never watched?

Not DVD form, but in my Netflix queue, yes.  Here are some: Bruno, Adventureland, and Requiem for a Dream.

Which are the worst movies in your collection and why do you still own them?

Humm…each DVD I own, I love.  I guess my “worst” DVD (that critics didn’t like) has got to be The Last Dragon.  Sho’Nuff!  I love that movie.

Do you have any confessions about your movie watching set up at home?

GHETTO.  I mostly watch DVDs on my Macbook Pro, because I don’t have a DVD player at the moment.  I’m too lazy to buy one.

Any other confessions you want to make?

I actually like Kristen Stewart as an actress.  As a person…I don’t know.  She might be a little too awkward for my taste, plus I don’t like cheaters.  Sorry.

I have not seen ‘O’! I didn’t even know about it and I adore Julia Stiles (but not a fan of Josh Harnett, so maybe that’s why it flew past me). Tom Cruise– totally agree with you on the Scientology bit. If I had known he’d turn out to be freaky (and married 3 times), I probably wouldn’t have had a crush on him when I was in grade school.

@Christine: Julia Stiles was really good in “O”. I think she is a great actress. Have you seen her in “Dexter” season 6 (I think…maybe it was season 5….now that I think about it). She played a raped victim, so powerful. Plus, she is really cute.

Poor Tom Cruise. He used to be so hot. Man…I want Top Gun Tom Cruise to come back. I miss that guy.

Great post, glad to see I’m not the only person who hasn’t seen Lawrence of Arabia

    • August 12, 2012 at 10:09 AM #

@Vinnieh: Between you and I, I don’t think I’ll ever want to watch Lawrence of Arabia. The only way I will watch it is if someone tricked me into it. LOL

I’ve never snuck into a movie even when I was pressured to. I have to agree on the ScarJo and Tom C/Scientology biz. I just saw ScarJo in Vick Christina Barcelona and it was alright but truly I wasn’t blown away by her acting. I’ve never avoided a particular director that I can think of. I don’t know if it’s hated or not but I’m certainly ridiculed for this particular movie love, Princess Bride. The only time I’ve ever been that “annoying” person in the theater is when I’ve had one of those giant drinks and I start bouncing my leg because I have to go to the bathroom and it’s a really good part of the movie that I don’t want to miss! But that’s only happened once or twice in my life. I’ve unnecessarily watched way too many JLo movies. I liked Enough and The Cell so had hoped she could recover…but nah. One of my favorite movies is with subtitles Amelie. I’ve watched all the movies in my collection. I don’t have any awful movies that I can think of. I shed them all for the move across the pond. My movie watching set up is on a super tiny screen. I won’t shell out the money for a big t.v. right now. Confession wise? Hmmm, I want to like Kristen Stewart as an actress but I don’t see her acting. I just see her being her own awkward self on the screen with little to no depth. And honestly, I have a girl-crush on Drew Barrymore. I just saw Whip It and was reminded how much I like her.

    • August 12, 2012 at 10:08 AM #

@Rachel: Sneaking into movies is kinda scary and when you get caught, it’s kinda (nay, super) embarrassing. Then again, the rising cost of movie theaters, I can see why people do it.

Poor ScarJo, she is not getting any love on this blog. LOL I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that way.

I love Princes Bride too. I never thought Princess Bride was a bad movie at all. I think they have some of the most iconic quotes. “As you wish”, “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”, and “Inconceivable”. Great movie for all ages.

That sucks about your pants getting wet. I wouldn’t like that very much.

YOu know, I don’t like to admit it, but I like JLo movies too. I always get suckered into watching “The Wedding Planner” on TV. “The Cell” was really good, but I know it didn’t too well. I don’t know why…it was so interesting and twisted.

I haven’t seen Whip It, yet. I really like Ellen Page. She is so awesome. I kinda wished I was Juno when I was younger, minus the teen pregnancy, of course.

I don’t ‘get’ ScarJo either. She’s pretty, yes, but her acting has never blown me away. She plays fairly safe roles. To me anyway.

O has me intrigued. I love Julia Stiles!

    • August 12, 2012 at 9:18 AM #

@Jaina: Welcome back! It’s good to hear from you. I’m glad that I’m not the only one that things that ScarJo plays it too safe. I really did like her in Lost in Translation.

I loved “O”, but I don’t think it was a very good movie at all. LOL It’s one of those movies that you love despite the terrible storyline and maybe bad acting.

      • August 13, 2012 at 1:11 AM #

I’ve got plenty of those sorts of films in my list of films I love but I know are terrible. And there are some truly shocking ones in there. Can’t help it!

I haven’t seen Lost in Translation yet. Really should get round to it, I just get put off by friends telling me to avoid it.

      • September 28, 2012 at 8:56 PM #

@Jaina: WOT! Stop what you are doing right now…yes, right now and go watch Lost in Translation. Go…I’ll wait right here.

You must see The Green Mile and Life is Beautiful. Both wonderful movies. Because you are so close with your father, Life is Beautiful will speak volumes to you (put a tissue box next to your computer). I hated Clockwork Orange. The last time I saw it I was in high school but I’m pretty sure I’d still hate it today.

I loved Scarlett Jo in Lost in Translation and I’d say she’s an okay actress but yes, she hasn’t “touched” me in a way that others have. But…I do have a non-sexual girl crush though, total body envy. I have no desire to be tall and skinny like Cameron Diaz. Short and beautifully curvy like Salma Hayek and SJ are my bodies of inspiration. In total agreement on Tom. He was once a brillant actor but I do feel like he’s lost his way even before the whole jumping on couches incident. Mission Impossible II with Thandie Newton felt so self serving to me, all Tom all the time. He’s redeemed himself since but it’s never been the same for me.

Hurray for polite behavior at the movies! I’m the same and I always throw my own rubbish away. Went to step up recently and so many teens had their phones on during the movie, looking at FB of all things. Seriously? I found it sad.

    • September 28, 2012 at 8:46 PM #

@Tania: Man, I don’t think I’ll be able to watch Life is Beautiful. I hate crying…I’m such a big baby. LOL

I don’t think I’m going to like Clockwork Orange, either, but I just want to know what all the hype is about.

I”m so shocked on how much people say the same thing you are saying about ScarJo. She definitely have an awesome body. She is not too big, but not too small. I never think of her as fat, but not toned at the same time. i don’t know if that make any sense. LOL

Poor Tom Cruise. *sigh* I used to have such a huge crush on him.

  6. August 16, 2012 at 4:51 PM #

Yup! I’m just gonna continue this hating on Scarlett Johansson and completely agree. She’s definitely a very passable actress, but I never see the big deal about her – except also in Lost in Translation, which was just awesome in every way.

“O” was actually really enjoyable too, haha. I remember seeing it in my high school English class. As far as modern remakes of Shakespeare plays, this one is definitely one of the, er, better ones?

    • September 28, 2012 at 8:40 PM #

@Jeremy: I loved Lost in Translation and actually had high hopes for Johansson. Sadly, I haven’t seen anything “awe inspiring” from her acting skills. I think there is way better (and prettier) actress out there.

Wow, you actually watched “O”? I have never met anybody that even knew, let alone watched this movie. I agree…it’s one of the better remakes. I think the best one is Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. That’s just my opinion….lol.

I am with you regarding procrastination :-)

I have not seen Lawrence of Arabia either but it’s near the top of my list

you should check out Alien and Cukoo’s Nest ASAP

Wait on it’s a Wonderful Life till Christmas time

Glad to see you took part in this blogathon even if you posted it as late as we did :-)

    • September 28, 2012 at 8:37 PM #

@3Guys1Movie: Thanks for making me feel better. I need to bump up Alien and Cukoo’s Nest on top of my list. I love answering these questions. I wish I could do it all the time. LOL

Without even going too far into the article I have to say – Scarlett Johanson. Especially after reading recently that she is/will be the highest paid actress in hollywood.!!! In the Avengers she was just a side character/kinda like Jeremy Renner (although he is an amazing actor). I just don’t think Scarlet is worth all the money she will be paid

    • September 28, 2012 at 8:31 PM #

@Cyril: Thank you for agreeing with me! That’s a shame that Scarlett Johanson is the highest paid actress. I wished Jeremy Renner had a better role in The Avengers, but whatevers…I still had fun. I agree, Renner is a great actor. I always enjoy his films.

      Thanks for stopping by!
