I'm going to be really honest and hope I don't get crucified for it. I know there are critics out there that don't feel Stephanie Meyers has a particularly strong writing style but I think she has a particular knack for drawing in her intended audience demographic. I thought her Twilight series was particularly aimed at tweens and successfully drew them in. I believe The Host is aimed at a slightly older audience and found myself quiet happily drawn in from the word go. I think her character development choices depicting the Souls are quite clever. It's hard to take a hard line "hate" stance against something portrayed as near ethereal, peaceful, with a near "innocent" like nature. I ended up with very conflicted emotions at Wanderer's inability to access memories which I really enjoyed as a reader. It's not often I find myself having that kind of internal reflection or struggle over a fictional character. I was very pleased when it became obvious that Melanie's feelings were either supplanting Wanderer's, influencing them, or that the Seeker's personality was just so repugnant and un-Soul like, that Wanderer decided not to continue helping her. I have an overall dislike for the idea of a race of creatures being capable of taking over entire worlds, without realizing the unethical implications since their focus seems to be to "improve" things.

@Tiera: Isn't it amazing how you start to compare yourself to this movie? I wished I had so much passion and dedication in what I do, but I don't. So sad...I have to find my passion and dedication, but when I do find it...I'm going to thrive to be the best. :) OMG...our birthday is next week!
